Extracurricular Instructional Classes
For children 3 to 18 years of age

SKIES Unlimited stands for “School of Knowledge, Inspiration, Exploration and Skills” with the word “Unlimited” for the unlimited possibilities that this program provides children and youth: 

  • All participants must be registered with CYS
  • On-going enrollment for most classes (New students may need to wait for open enrollment)
  • Currently enrolled SKIES students will be automatically re-enrolled into the next session for most classes to retain their space. Payment for the session must be made before the first day of class.
  • Classes will be filled on a first paid basis.

Children and Youth that are currently registered in CYS may be able to enroll for some of the SKIES classes using WebTrac.

Registration:

Participants must register with CYS Services. Call +1 (573)596-0238 or stop by Parent and Outreach Services for more information.

Fee Payment Policy:

According to CYS Services fee policy, tuition for SKIES instructional classes are to be collected before the first class of the month. Payments can be made over the phone or in person at any CYS Services facility. If payment is not received by your child's second scheduled class of the month and no arrangements have been made, we will be forced to implement the garnishment process. Your child will also be dropped from the class.

Music and Movement - class offered to youth ages 3-5 years old and their parents. Features activities involving singing, playing instruments, moving to music, creative movement exercises and more. Parent participation is required.

Dance

Dance instruction is offered through the School of Performing Arts, based out of Lebanon, MO. Classes are for youth ages 3-18 years old.

Classes are held once a week on Thursdays. Cost is $50 per person.

  • Dance 1 (ages 3-4) - 3:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m.
  • Dance 2 (ages 5-7) - 4:30 p.m. to 5:20 p.m.
  • Dance 3 (ages 8 & up) - 5:30 p.m. to 6:20 p.m.
  • Hip-Hop (ages 6 & up) - 6:30 p.m. to 7:20 p.m.

Preschool classes

  • Teddy Bear (18 months - 2 years) - playful class with emphasis on exploration and socialization. Parent participation is required.
  • Tumble Bear (3 - 4 years) - strong emphasis on social skills and group involvement. Classes are centered on age appropriate activities and begin the introduction to formal gymnastics apparatus and body shapes. Parent participation is optional. 
  • Star Bear (4 - 5 years) - classes become more physically challenging and continue to introduce formal gymnastics apparatus and body shapes.
  • Kinder Bear (5 - 6 years) - skill acquisition becomes more challenging as increased focus is placed on tumbling and conditioning. This class marks the transition from preschool class to youth gymnastics.

Youth classes

  • Beginners class (6 - 16 years) - introduces basic tumbling and dance skills, body shapes, conditioning and formal gymnastics apparatus. No prior tumbling or gymnastic experience is needed. 
  • Level 1 & 2 (7 - 16 years) - executes forward roll to stand, cartwheels, bridge, headstand, and candlestick stand.
  • Advanced (7 - 16 years) - practices handstand forward roll, round-off, handstand hold, back bend pull-up and back handspring.
  • Prep class (5 - 8 years) - teaches handstand forward roll, round-off, handstand hold, back bend pull-up and back handspring.
  • Trampoline & Tumbling (6 - 18 years) - class will be grouped by age and ability, will emphasize basic tumbling, body shapes, flexibility and fitness.

 Appropriate attire

  • Girls - leotards, bare feet, no tights, long hair pulled back and cover-ups to and from class
  • Boys - workout pants, tee shirt and bare feet

Classes

  • Tiny Tigers (4 - 5 years) - offers children a strong foundation in life and motor skills to enhance their ability to pay attention and follow directions. All classes are taught using the most safe, fun and exciting instruction methods.
  • Taekwondo (6 & up) - students are trained to the the best of their ability. Offers fitness and flexibility.
  • Black Belt Club - exciting workout that offers training in sparring, alternative martial arts skills and self-defense.
Swimming

Private classes are available.

Learn to Swim

  • Aqua Babies -  this parent and child class covers water exploration roles that help children learn and practice skills. Combined skills in prone position and water entry will be covered.
  • Level 1  - skills taught include floating, bubble blowing, supported kick, and basic water safety rules.
  • Level 2 - skills include object retrieval, unsupported back float, flutter kicks, unsupported prone float, and water safety rules.
  • Level 3 - children will be taught object retrieval with open eyes, bobbing in water, prone and back glide, trading, reversing direction, and basic diving and water safety rules.
  • Level 4 - skills taught include deep water bobbing, rotary breathing, diving from side, back stroke intro, breast stroke, scissor kick, treading, water safety skills, and intro to CPR.
  • Level 5 - youth demonstrate strokes learned, tread water using different kicks, swim under water, long shallow dive and stride jump entry.

Each child is required to do a swim evaluation prior to signing up for class, except Aqua Babies.

Absences, inclement weather & withdrawals
  • We follow the Waynesville School District for cancellations due to inclement weather.
  • If you have sick children (flu, fever, etc.), keep them home.
  • Dropping, changing or joining a class must be done through CYS Services.
  • Classes will not be held on Federal Holidays.
  • Classes are subject to change based on enrollment.
HIRED! Workforce Preparation Program

HIRED! helps teens 15-18 years of age prepare for entering the workforce and explore career opportunities. Youth experience working and participating in workforce-preparation and post-secondary education exploration classes. Registration for HIRED! is through the Youth Program.

Fit EDGE! Educates and encourage children and youth to incorporate a healthier lifestyle through physical activity and nutritional awareness programs
Life EDGE! Imparts upon children and youth skills needed for life-long growth as well as the exploration of future career fields
Adventure EDGE! Encourages children and youth to embrace the outdoors and nature while being exposed to activities that stimulate relaxation
