- I don’t normally have installation access, how does this work if I were to get a job with CYS?

If you’re attending a Hiring Fair on Fort Leonard Wood, please check the Main Gate Access page for ID requirements to access post for the CYS Hiring Fair or contact 573-596-7167. Hired employees receive a Common Access Card (CAC) upon employment which allows installation access.

- Does Child and Youth Services (CYS) offer childcare for employees?

CYS employees are eligible to utilize CYS facilities.  Currently, employees receive a 100% discount off their first enrolled child and a 25% discount for additional enrolled children. Childcare requests can be made at militarychildcare.com and are offered based on space availability. Employment status is not contingent on childcare availability, and it is recommended employees arrange alternate childcare options.

- What are CYS hours of operation?

Child Development Centers & School Age Center operate Monday-Friday, 5:30am-5:30pm.
Dru Pippin Youth Center is open Monday-Friday, 1 pm – 6 pm and 1 pm – 7 pm on Fridays.
CYS facilities are closed on all federal holidays. Occasional training and development requirements are met after hours and/or on weekends.

- What should I expect from CYS training?

CYS provides orientation training that includes 60 hours of position specific content. Once this orientation training is completed, employees will participate in 32 hours of hands-on supervised work experience. Supervised work involves working directly in the classroom alongside Child and Youth Program Assistants (CYPA) to implement the procedures learned during orientation training.  After supervised work is completed, employees will then participate in ongoing CYS training for a total of 18 months. Once these required trainings are successfully completed, employees can continue growing their credentials by completing the process to achieve a Child Development Associate (CDA).
